Your first bitcoin: what to bring and what happens

A first visit to the counter, minute by minute: the ID check, the wallet, the numbers on the screen and the receipt you keep.

Most people who come in for their first coin are a little nervous. That’s normal, and it’s why we do this at a counter and not in an app.

What to bring

A passport or an EU ID card, your phone, and the money: cash, a card or your bank app for a transfer. That’s all.

If you don’t have a wallet

We help you install a free wallet on your phone. You write down its twelve backup words on paper, yourself. We never see them and never keep them.

The numbers

On the screen facing you: today’s rate, our fee of 1.9% and exactly how much bitcoin you will receive. The rate holds for ten minutes, so there is no rush.

Sending

We scan the address in your wallet twice and read the first and last characters out loud with you. Then we send, you watch it arrive, and you keep a receipt with the transaction ID.

How much to start with

Only what you could lose without it changing your month. Crypto prices can halve in weeks. We would rather you came back a second time than regretted the first.

Ask the desk

Rates, fees, ATMs, ID checks and how it works

Hello! Ask me about our fees, the nearest ATM, what to bring the first time or how the OTC desk works.
