How to spot a crypto scam before it costs you

Four sentences that almost always mean a scam, what to do if you hear them, and why we will gladly talk you out of a trade.

A phone face down on a café table in soft evening light, a cup of coffee beside it

Every month someone comes to the counter about to send their savings to a stranger. Most scams follow the same script.

“You need to act now”

A deadline is the scammer’s best tool. Real investments don’t expire this afternoon.

“It’s guaranteed”

Nobody can guarantee a return in crypto. A promise of one is the clearest warning there is.

“Pay the fine in bitcoin”

No police force, bank or tax office asks for payment at a Bitcoin ATM. If a caller does, hang up.

“Send it to my wallet and I’ll manage it”

Once you send coins to someone else’s address, they are theirs. There is no bank to call it back.

What to do

Stop, and talk to someone you trust in person. Or come to the counter: we will look at it with you for free, and we will never be offended if the answer is not to buy.

Ask the desk

Rates, fees, ATMs, ID checks and how it works

Hello! Ask me about our fees, the nearest ATM, what to bring the first time or how the OTC desk works.
